Chakib Benmoussa, Minister of National Education, visited Asni, Al Haouz Province, on Wednesday to evaluate the restoration and rehabilitation of schools damaged by the earthquake on September 8, 2023.
The visit covered various educational institutions, including the Asni School Group, the Haut Atlas high school dormitory, and the Asni qualifying high school dormitory.
In Tahanaout, Benmoussa met with educational staff and parents at the Marche Verte Primary School.
In Amizmiz, he reviewed the socio-educational project supporting children at the Chemsi orphanage, observing the facilities including age-segregated dormitories and multifunctional rooms.
The visit also included the Oued Eddahab Primary School in Aghouatim, which is set to become a “pioneering school” this academic year.
Benmoussa reported that all stakeholders are working to ensure a smooth school reopening, with students who were studying in temporary facilities or Marrakech internats returning to their schools in Al Haouz.
He highlighted increased scholarships and improved school transport in collaboration with local authorities to meet community needs.
Several rehabilitated schools have reopened, with reconstruction of severely damaged schools underway, set to open in the coming months.
Mohamed Zerrouki, Provincial Director of National Education, noted that the reconstruction is progressing well, with many schools already reopened.
Internats were prioritized for their crucial role in providing optimal schooling conditions, particularly for rural girls. Around 3,000 students previously relocated to Marrakech have returned to their Al Haouz schools.
Alternative solutions have been implemented to keep students close to their families, reinforcing their psychological stability and academic success.
