A mass shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia on Wednesday left four people dead and several others injured. A 14-year-old student, Colt Gray, is in custody and will face multiple charges of murder, according to a report from CNN.
The victims have been identified as 14-year-olds Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, as well as teachers Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Christina Irimie, 53. Aspinwall also served as an assistant football coach at the school.
Gray, a fellow student at the school, was apprehended by a school resource officer shortly after reports of an active shooter were received at 10:20 a.m. ET. He is expected to be charged as an adult.
In 2023, Gray was interviewed by local law enforcement after the FBI received tips about online threats involving a potential school shooting. However, no arrest was made at the time due to a lack of probable cause.
The incident marks the deadliest school shooting in the US this year and the eleventh school shooting with four or more deaths since 2008. Schools in the surrounding area will remain closed for the rest of the week.
