Suspected Boko Haram extremists killed at least 100 people in Yobe, northeastern Nigeria, on August 1, police reported on Wednesday.
More than 50 attackers on motorcycles opened fire in Tarmuwa council, targeting a market, worshippers, and homes, AP said.
The attackers set buildings ablaze, according to Yobe police spokesperson Dungus Abdulkarim, citing Boko Haram’s involvement.
Boko Haram has waged an insurgency since 2009 to impose Sharia law, leading to at least 35,000 deaths and 2 million displaced.
This year alone, armed groups in the region have killed at least 1,500 people, according to ACLED data.
