From August 26 to September 1, 2024, 18 people lost their lives and 2,527 were injured in traffic accidents within urban areas, according to the General Directorate of National Police (DGSN)
The DGSN reported that these accidents were primarily caused by driver negligence, failure to yield, poor vehicle control, and inadequate following distance.
Other factors included pedestrian carelessness, speeding, failure to obey stop signs, and unauthorized lane changes.
Traffic violations also contributed to the accidents. The police issued 47,039 fines and 7,523 tickets submitted to the prosecutor’s office.
A total of 39,516 on-the-spot fines were paid.
The DGSN reported that the fines collected amounted to 8,556,350 dirhams.
Nearly 5,200 vehicles were impounded, 7,523 documents were confiscated, and 307 vehicles were immobilized.
