A petition calling for President Emmanuel Macron’s removal has gathered over 186,000 signatures since Saturday’s launch.
The petition follows a proposal by leftist deputies to remove Macron after he allegedly ignored election results by maintaining the former government, Anadolu Agency reported.
The petition accuses Macron of unprecedented authoritarianism, blocking new programs, and violating democratic principles, urging MPs to support his removal.
Signatories demand that deputies and senators vote to restore true democracy and respect the people’s electoral choices, according to the petition.
Clémence Guetté, LFI’s vice-president of the National Assembly, praised the petition’s success on X, highlighting its significant impact.
Guetté urged more people to sign the petition, emphasizing the importance of public support in this unprecedented call for Macron’s removal.
La France Insoumise proposed the president’s removal on August 31, citing severe breaches of democratic norms and ignoring the electorate’s will.
The four-page proposal sent to deputies accuses Macron of serious violations of democratic duty and failing to honor universal suffrage.
According to BFMTV and AFP, the new Prime Minister’s name will not be announced tonight.
Fifty days after Gabriel Attal’s resignation, the suspense over his successor continues. Emmanuel Macron has delayed his decision.
Although Macron appeared ready to announce Xavier Bertrand on Wednesday, he might test other candidates before making a final choice.
“Nothing for tonight, according to what I’m told,” said a senior member of the majority late Wednesday afternoon.
