The National Council of Moroccan Technicians (CNTM) has announced 24-hour nationwide strikes every Wednesday for the rest of September, effectively halting operations across public and central administration.
In a statement, the CNTM called on all technicians to participate in the strikes to protest the “dire conditions” they face. They are demanding better working conditions and higher wages from the government.
The Council also urged technicians to prepare for protest rallies, and those working in emergency services are encouraged to wear a red armband on strike days as a symbol of solidarity.
Technicians have been protesting many times throughout the year, most recently in June, demanding among other things, higher wages, better conditions for lower-ranking technicians, and an approval of their statute.
The Council has now reiterated the same demands, insisting on the return of funds deducted from the salaries of technicians who previously exercised their “constitutional right to strike.” In addition to a salary increase and improving the promotion system to maintain “a fair compensation system.”
Moroccan technicians are hopeful that the ongoing dialogues between the government and labor unions this September will lead to amendments in their statute including the demands listed.
