An exhibition showcasing Moroccan fashion and identity will open on September 9 at the Museum of Islamic and Near Eastern Cultures in Beer-Sheva, Southern Israel.
The exhibition, titled: “In Frame and in Life. Maroc: Mode, Parure et Identité,” is organized in partnership with the Museum of Jewish Art and History and the French Institute of Israel, “The Times of Israel reported.”
Visitors will explore traditional Moroccan clothing reflecting values, stories, and social status, influenced by various cultural backgrounds.
The exhibition is divided into two sections, offering both historical and contemporary perspectives through photography and design.
The first section features sixty rare photographs by ethnologist Jean Besancenot, taken in the 1930s within Jewish communities in Morocco. The second section showcases designs by Stav Alfassi and Netta Ittah, Moroccan-origin designers inspired by Moroccan cultural heritage.
Supported by the Jacqueline de Romilly Foundation, the exhibition is a collaboration with photographer Hannah Assouline and Dr. Rachel Getz Salomon.
Dr. Rachel Getz Salomon, head of the Fashion Design Department at the University of Haifa, contributed to curating the exhibition.
The exhibition will be on display until February 15, 2025, in Beer-Sheva.
