US rapper Fatman Scoop, aged 53, has died after collapsing during a concert on Friday in Hamden, Connecticut, according to the BBC.
Scoop fell ill halfway through his performance at Town Center Park and was rushed to a local hospital by ambulance. His death was later confirmed by his booking agency, MN2S, which described his legacy as enduring through his “timeless music.”
The American Rapper’s family paid tribute on social media, remembering him as “a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life.” They highlighted his roles as a father, brother, uncle, and friend, noting his laughter, support, and strength.
Known legally as Isaac Freeman III, Fatman Scoop was a key figure in New York City’s hip-hop scene during the 1990s. He gained fame with hits like Missy Elliott’s Grammy-winning “Lose Control” and Mariah Carey’s “It’s Like That.” His 1999 track “Be Faithful” became an international success in 2003.
Scoop appeared on the UK TV series “Chancers” in 2004 and was a contestant on “Celebrity Big Brother 16” in 2015.
His tour manager, DJ Pure Cold, expressed his grief on Instagram, thanking Scoop for the life-changing experiences he provided.
“You taught me howw to be the man I am Today,” Cold wrote.
Fatman Scoop was scheduled to perform at the UK’s Reminisce Festival on September 7. The festival expressed its deep sorrow, describing him as a cherished member of their family whose vibrant presence and talent will be greatly missed.
