Air traffic reached a record 18.1 million passengers in the first seven months of 2024, a significant 18.5% increase year on year, according to the Economy and Finance Ministry’s Department of Economic Studies and Financial Forecast (DEPF).
The surge in passenger numbers reflects a strong performance in both international and domestic travel. International traffic grew by 17.9%, while domestic traffic saw a substantial increase of 24.6%.
Traffic at major national airports contributed notably to this growth. Casablanca saw an increase of 6.4%, Marrakech surged by 30.2%, Agadir jumped 34.6%, and Tangier grew by 20%.
Other airports also performed well, including Fes (+11.4%), Rabat-Salé (+40.4%), Nador (+3.9%), Oujda (+10.5%), Tetouan (+23.8%), Dakhla (+33.2%), Laayoune (+9.9%), Essaouira (+29.2%), and Ouarzazate (+18.4%).
By region, air traffic showed strong growth across several areas. Europe experienced a 19% increase, the Middle East and Far East grew by 12.1%, Africa saw a rise of 16.4%, North America grew by 8.4%, and Maghreb countries increased by 7.6%.
Freight traffic and airport movements also saw robust growth, with increases of 24.2% and 14.8%, respectively, by the end of July.
July alone marked a record-setting month for the aviation sector, with passenger numbers exceeding 3 million, representing a 14.8% year-over-year increase. This performance underscores the sector’s strong recovery and ongoing expansion.
