Morocco’s government prioritizes the swift implementation of several vital hydraulic projects, namely the construction of dams, interconnection operations, and seawater desalination initiatives to address the Kingdom’s water management challenges, Mustapha Baitas, Minister Delegate, and Government spokesperson told the press at a briefing in Rabat on Thursday.
The government has allocated 143 billion MAD to address water challenges over the 2021-2027 period. Funding will be directed towards irrigation and potable water projects, according to Baitas.
The minister set out several significant projects, notably those focused on hydrographic basin interconnection, and highlighted the government’s initiatives to mitigate the impact of reduced precipitation over the past three years.
He also mentioned King Mohammed VI’s speech on the 25th anniversary of his ascension to the throne last month, in which he emphasized the need for innovative solutions to address the Kingdom’s water challenges.
