Morocco and Senegal signed two agreements on Thursday in Rabat to enhance cooperation in the transportation area.
The first agreement was signed between the National Office of Railways (ONCF) and the Senegal National Management Company of Regional Express Train Assets (SEN-TER-SA). The second agreement included the Institute of Railway Training (IFF) and SEN-TER-SA.
The signing took place during a meeting between Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohammed Abdeljalil, and Senegal’s Minister of Infrastructure, Land, and Air Transport, Malick Ndiaye, who was accompanied by a high-level delegation from Senegal.
Both ministers welcomed the strong relationship between Morocco and Senegal in transportation and expressed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the railway area.
The parties also discussed ways to enhance cooperation in railway maintenance, road and air transport, and improve road safety conditions in both countries.
The officials reiterated their commitment to jointly advance transportation projects by finalizing ongoing agreements and forming a multidisciplinary working group. This group will develop an action plan to implement the signed agreements and ensure the recommendations from the meeting are carried out.
Abdeljalil extended an invitation to Ndiaye to attend the 4th World Road Safety Conference, scheduled to be held in Marrakech in February 2025.
The meeting was part of an official visit by the Senegalese delegation to Morocco from August 27-29, 2024. During this visit, the delegation toured Tangier, Fez, and Rabat to learn about Morocco’s experience with high-speed train maintenance and the railway industry.
In a statement to the press, Abdeljalil highlighted the importance of strengthening transportation cooperation between Morocco and Senegal, pointing out that the partnership seeks to enhance networking and communication to elevate cooperation, especially in railway.
Ndiaye noted that his visit allowed him to see Morocco’s “high-quality” achievements in urban and interurban mobility, particularly in the railway sector. He applauded Morocco’s best practices and pioneering experience in this area.
