The 7th Fado Festival will take place in Morocco on September 25 and 26 at the Mohammed V National Theater in Rabat. This year’s event, under the theme “Fado and Freedom,” will feature a film screening, a conference, and a photography exhibition.
As an internationally touring showcase of Fado, the festival celebrates its 14th global edition since its inception in Madrid. According to the organizers, “The event travels annually to 18 major cities across Europe, Africa, Latin America, and Asia.”
The festival will present two concerts featuring prominent Portuguese Fado voices Beatriz Felício on September 25 and Matilde Cid on September 26.
Beatriz Felício, a Fado singer from Lisbon, captivates audiences with her deep voice and moving performances. Drawing from the authenticity of traditional Fado, she reinvents the genre with contemporary sensitivity, adding a unique touch. Known for her stage charisma and rich musical heritage, Felício is a leading figure in the Portuguese Fado scene.
Matilde Cid represents the new generation of Fado, blending cultural heritage with modernity in a gracefully captivating manner. Hailing from Coimbra, Cid enchants audiences with her mesmerizing voice and profound connection to the soul of Fado.
Fado, a symbol of creative, emotional, and transcendent resistance, has flourished in the post-April 25 era. Once persecuted and mistreated, it has now achieved a prominent place in the musical landscape of Portugal and the world.
