King Mohammed VI sent a message of condolence and sympathy to the family of the late Moroccan journalist Jamal Berraoui on Tuesday. Berraoui died on Monday morning at the age of 69 after a long battle with illness.
In his message, the King expressed deep sorrow upon receiving the news of Berraoui’s passing and offered prayers for the deceased. The monarch extended his condolences not only to Berraoui’s family but also to his relatives and the wider media community.
He conveyed his “sincere compassion” in the wake of the loss of a respected journalist and a distinguished political and economic analyst with a notable media career.
Berraoui was a prominent figure in Moroccan journalism, known for his roles as a journalist, editor, and columnist. He had previously led various Moroccan editorial teams such as “La Vie économique”, “La Gazette du Maroc”, and “Challenge”, and was a frequent contributor to numerous television and radio programs.
Originally from Safi, Berraoui was recognized for his ability to tackle delicate and complex topics, enriching the public debate with his insightful analysis.
The late journalist was also known for his generosity and steadfast commitment to professional ethics. Throughout his career, he ardently defended Morocco’s interests and national values with a profound sense of patriotism, the King noted.
In addition to his journalistic achievements, Berraoui wrote a book in 2019 entitled “Yasmine: 19 ans, trisomique, bachelière,” chronicling the inspiring journey of his daughter, who earned her high school diploma in 2014 despite her genetic condition.
While sharing the grief of Berraoui’s family during this difficult time, the King acknowledged the inevitability of divine will. He prayed to the Almighty to grant the family patience and solace, to reward the deceased abundantly for his contributions to the nation, and to welcome him among the Virtuous.
