Swedish football manager and former England coach, Sven-Göran Eriksson, has died at the age of 76 following a battle with cancer.
His agent, Bo Gustavsson, confirmed that Eriksson passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, surrounded by his family.
Eriksson, who became the first non-British manager of England’s national team, led the Three Lions to the quarterfinals in three major tournaments during his five-year tenure from 2001 to 2006.
His impact on the football industry was felt worldwide, as fans from across Europe expressed their support after the announcement of his illness in January.
Throughout his career, Eriksson managed 12 clubs, including Manchester City, Leicester, Roma, and Lazio, and amassed a total of 18 trophies.
In a documentary film released earlier this month, Eriksson reflected on his life and the inevitability of death.
He shared a poignant message, saying, “I had a good life. Everyone is scared of the day when it’s over, but life is about death as well. You have to learn to accept it. I hope people will remember me as a positive guy who tried his best. Don’t be sorry, smile. Thank you for everything.”
