OOS Aquaculture Morocco, a subsidiary of OOS International, has begun testing a new semi-submersible mussel farm off the coast of Ras Al Ma, near Nador, in northern Morocco, Baird Maritime reported on Monday. This innovative project in the northeast of Morocco is expected to revolutionize Morocco’s local aquaculture infrastructure.
Over the coming months, the company plans to add structures at its existing semi-submersible farm to enhance its functionality, not just for farming mussels but also for marine tourism, turning the farm into a dual-purpose commercial enterprise and tourism provider.
The primary objective of the project is to optimize mussel farming infrastructure and introduce proactive measures for future aquaculture ventures.
OOS International has said that it is committed to “ensuring the sustainability and efficiency of mussel cultivation in Morocco,” while promoting long-term benefits for the industry.
Its Moroccan subsidiary plans to construct similar semi-submersible farms throughout Morocco in the future.
These locally producing mussel farms will be marketed to both domestic and international customers, highlighting Morocco’s growing role in the global aquaculture sector.
It also plans to expand this semi-submersible farms to other Mediterranean countries, making Morocco a hub for sustainable mussel farming.
By pioneering this innovative approach, OOS Aquaculture Morocco is setting a new standard for the industry, and taking a significant step forward in Morocco’s aquaculture sector, positioning the country as a leader in sustainable marine farming in the entire Mediterranean region.
