A Moroccan delegation attended the 130th Grand Magal in Touba, Senegal, on Saturday. The Grand Magal, an annual pilgrimage and festival of the Mouride Brotherhood, commemorates the exile of its founder, Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba Mbacké.
Led by Younes Sibari, President of the Local Council of Ulemas of Kenitra, the Moroccan delegation was received by Serigne Bassirou Mbacké Abdou Khadre, the spokesperson for the Khalif General of the Mourides.
Abdou Khadre Mbacké expressed gratitude for the Moroccan delegation’s participation and underscored the importance of Morocco’s involvement in the Grand Magal. “As in previous years, Morocco’s participation continues to be highly valued,” Mbacké stated.
Sibari emphasized that the visit aimed to strengthen relations between Moroccan and Senegalese ulemas and reaffirm Morocco’s commitment to enhancing ties with African nations.
The commitment is evident in the initiatives of the Mohammed VI Foundation for African Ulemas and the Mohammed VI Institute for the Training of Imams Morchidines and Morchidates, which work to promote a true image of Islam and disseminate enlightened religious thought.
During the ceremony, Serigne Mountakha Mbacké, spokesperson for the Khalif General, highlighted the Magal’s significance as a symbol of triumph for Africa and Senegal.
He noted that the event not only celebrates Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba’s resilience and faith but also fosters unity and spirituality within the Mouride community. The event attracts hundreds of thousands of devotees to the town’s sacred mausoleum.
