The latest round of negotiations aimed at ending the Gaza war concluded on Sunday without reaching a resolution, Devdiscourse reports. Egyptian security sources reveal that both Hamas and Israel rejected the compromises proposed by mediators.
The talks, which intended to de-escalate tensions and pave the way for regional peace, fell short despite the mediators’ best efforts.
As of Sunday, the death toll in Gaza has surpassed 40,300, with Israeli forces intensifying their attacks on the besieged enclave, according to Al Jazeera.
The collapse of the peace negotiations is further raising concerns about the prospects of an all-out war in the region.
Earlier today, Israel launched airstrikes on southern Lebanon, describing the operation as a “preemptive” measure to prevent an imminent Hezbollah attack on northern Israeli towns.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) targeted Hezbollah launch sites and military positions just 30 minutes before the group was expected to launch its own assault.
Hezbollah has responded by announcing the completion of the first phase of its retaliatory operation, firing over 320 Katyusha rockets at multiple Israeli military bases, including key positions in the occupied Golan Heights.
The escalation came in response to the killing of Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr last month, which the group blames on Israel.
The exchange of fire represents one of the most intense confrontations since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023.
