US Former President Donald Trump is set to host The “J6 Awards Gala” to honor the individuals convicted in connection with the January 6 Capitol riot, the Independent reported.
Organized by the pro-Trump nonprofit “The America Project,” the event is scheduled for September 5 at Trump’s Bedminster golf club in New Jersey. Trump and Rudy Giuliani are listed as “invited” speakers, though their participation is not confirmed.
According to the event’s promotional materials, attendees will have the opportunity to win a plaque commemorating the “Justice for All” song, which briefly appeared on the billboard charts earlier this year. The song features Trump reciting the Pledge of Allegiance while a choir of January 6 riot convicts sing the national anthem.
The gala is described as a chance for supporters to gather and honor all the January 6 defendants who have shown “incredible courage and sacrifice.” In a promotional video, Trump refers to these individuals as “peaceful” and describes them as “J6 hostages,” further promising pardons if he is re-elected.
Despite being billed as an awards gala, it remains unclear what specific awards will be presented. The event has already been postponed once. Previous flyers for the event indicated ticket prices ranging from $2,500 for individual attendees to $50,000 for a table of 12 with a speaker.
Funds raised from the gala are reportedly intended to contribute to a legal defense fund for those involved in the Capitol riot.
The timing of the event is notable, as Trump is scheduled to be sentenced on September 18 for 34 felony counts related to the Stormy Daniels hush money case in New York.
Once officially sentenced, Trump could face restrictions on associating with other felons, according to legal experts. While the gala may be legal, it is unlikely to benefit Trump ahead of his sentencing.
