A stabbing attack at the Festival of Diversity in Solingen, Germany, on Friday, resulted in multiple deaths and injuries, according to the Independent.
The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. local time (7:45 p.m. GMT) when a man began randomly stabbing passers-by with a knife at the festival. Initial reports suggest at least three people have died, and several others have been wounded.
The attacker remains at large, with no arrests made so far, according to police sources. The weapon used is believed to be a knife.
Philipp Muller, one of the festival organizers, announced that emergency workers were struggling to save the lives of nine people. Authorities have since evacuated the downtown area of Solingen, where the attack took place in the central Fronhof square.
The festival, which began on Friday to celebrate Solingen’s 650th anniversary, was intended to feature live music, cabaret, and acrobatics throughout the weekend. Solingen, with a population of approximately 160,000, is located near Cologne and Düsseldorf.
