Morocco’s national security (DGSN), in cooperation with the Territorial Surveillance Agency (DGST), successfully foiled an attempt to traffic 543 kilograms of cannabis resin on Wednesday evening, in Tangier in the northern region of the kingdom, according to a press release issued by DGSN.
The joint security operation led to the arrest of five suspects, aged 33 to 48, caught red-handed in preparing to carry out an international drug smuggling operation.
No details have been released as to the method or means of transporting the illegal substance.
Police executed a search warrant at the suspects’ residences and seized a significant quantity of drugs, three vehicles, and a motorcycle. A sum of money believed to be the proceeds from drug trafficking was also seized.
The suspects are now in custody pending further investigation under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office, which is looking at who may also be connected to these criminal activities, with an eye on regional and global links.
