Karim Bouamrane, the Moroccan-born Mayor of Saint-Ouen, north of Paris, is making headlines as a leading candidate for France’s next Prime Minister.
Born in 1973 to Moroccan immigrant parents, Bouamrane began his political career in the Communist Party before transitioning to the Socialist Party, where he was a prominent spokesperson earning widespread acclaim for his leadership and innovative policies.
After working in the cybersecurity sector in Silicon Valley, Bouamrane returned to France and became the mayor of Saint-Ouen in 2020, the city where he grew up.
He gained significant attention during the Paris Olympic Games by making Saint-Ouen the host city for Brazilian athletes.
“Le Figaro” magazine spotlighted his governance style, highlighting that he upholds left-wing values while also defending principles such as authority, security, and patriotism.
Bouamrane’s political career began in 1995 when he was first elected to the municipal council of Saint-Ouen.
Since his appointment as mayor, he has been praised for his effective governance and his role in hosting athletes during the Paris Olympics.
Bouamrane has garnered respect across the political spectrum for his efforts to reconcile progressive values with a pragmatic approach to security and patriotism.
He is currently endorsed by influential figures and is building a growing reputation both in France and internationally.
Among his supporters is Gaspard Gantzer, a former advisor under President François Hollande’s leadership. In response to speculation about Bouamrane’s potential appointment, Gantzer remarked on X, “Clearly a candidate for the Élysée.”
