French football superstar Kylian Mbappe has lodged a formal complaint against his former club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), claiming that the club owes him nearly €55 million in unpaid salaries, Le Monde reported on Tuesday.
The complaint was filed with the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) via the French Football Federation (FFF).
Mbappe, who recently joined Real Madrid after a successful seven-year run with PSG, alleges that the Parisian club failed to pay his salary for the final three months of his contract, covering April, May, and June of 2024.
The unpaid sum includes his regular wages as well as an “ethical bonus” that he was entitled to during this period.
In addition, Mbappe claims that PSG did not deliver the final installment of a signing bonus, amounting to €36 million, which was due in February 2024.
Mbappe’s legal team sent an official notice to PSG in mid-June, demanding the overdue payments. However, the issue remains unresolved, prompting Mbappe to take the matter to the French Professional Football League’s (LFP) legal committee.
The player cited Article 259 of France’s professional football charter, which mandates that clubs must pay players’ wages by the last day of each month.
The relationship between Mbappe and PSG had soured towards the end of his time with the club, culminating in reports of a heated argument between Mbappe and PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
Despite his contributions on the field as PSG’s all-time leading scorer, Mbappe’s departure from the club was anything but amicable.
Now with Real Madrid, Mbappe has wasted no time in making an impact. He helped the team secure the UEFA Super Cup during his debut and played a pivotal role in its 1-1 draw against Mallorca in the La Liga opener.
