On the occasion of the Revolution of the King and the People, Morocco’s King Mohammed VI pardoned 685 individuals sentenced by various Moroccan courts, the Ministry of Justice said in a press release.
The beneficiaries of the Royal Pardon currently in detention have numbered 548 prisoners and are divided as follows:
– 15 inmates benefited from pardon over the remaining prison term.
– 529 had their prison terms reduced.
– 4 inmates had their life sentences commuted to fixed-term sentences.
The beneficiaries of the Royal Pardon currently at liberty numbered 137 people and are divided as follows:
– 26 people have benefited from pardon over their prison terms or its remainder.
– 8 people had their prison sentences reduced while their fines were maintained.
– 98 arrested had their fines annulled.
– 4 individuals had had both their prison terms pardoned and their fines annulled.
– 1 inmate benefited from both the fine and the remainder of the prison sentence reduction.
The king also pardoned 4,831 individuals convicted, pursued, or sought in cases of cannabis resin cultivation.
The ministry added that the Royal Pardon’s beneficiaries will integrate into the new strategy adopted by the concerned provinces following the creation of the National Agency for the Regulation of Cannabis-Related Activities (ANRAC).
This initiative is aimed at the economic and social impact of cannabis activities through the industrialization, processing, export, and import of cannabis products for medical, pharmaceutical, and industrial purposes, as well as contributing to the development of alternative crops and non-agricultural activities.
