Morocco’s aviation industry, which started more than 20 years ago, is currently a global leader as the country plans to construct whole aircraft by 2030, Al Jazeera said in a report on Sunday.
The news outlet said that the country manufactures more than 40 aircraft parts, including sensitive components produced only in five nations.
In the first five months of 2024, aviation exports reached 10.7 Billion MAD, an 18% increase from 2023.
Morocco’s aviation industry exported 22 billion MAD in 2023, marking a 38% growth compared to 2021.
The country’s efforts mirror the success seen in its automotive industry, making it a competitive industrial hub.
Morocco’s industrial infrastructure and skilled workforce have attracted over 140 global aviation companies, including Airbus and Boeing.
These partnerships enhance Morocco’s position as a strategic partner with high quality and competitiveness in the global market.
The country’s aviation industry employs over 21,000 highly skilled workers, contributing to the sector’s productivity and competitiveness.
Morocco also invests heavily in specialized vocational training for technicians and engineers, preparing local talent for the industry’s demands.
The country is advancing projects like the “Sabca Morocco” plant near Casablanca, which specializes in manufacturing and assembling the “PC-12” aircraft structure. A partnership was also established with “Collins Aerospace” to create a supply chain ecosystem in Morocco.
Morocco’s ambitions include increasing local integration in aviation manufacturing, aiming to assemble entire aircraft domestically by 2030.
This plan involves diversifying the sector’s capabilities, reducing carbon emissions, and targeting new markets, including military aviation.
Economists highlight that Morocco’s aviation success began with quantity before shifting to quality, leading to record levels of industrial concentration.
However, they stress the importance of continuing to support the industry to maintain Morocco’s attractiveness as an investment destination.
Despite the aviation sector’s growth, experts note that it still lags behind the automotive industry, which generated 141 billion MAD in 2023.
Morocco remains a promising market due to its advanced industrial platforms and qualified workforce.
The country is now Africa’s leading aviation industry and ranks among the top globally. The future looks bright for Morocco as it continues to expand its aviation manufacturing and assembly capabilities.
