Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita, representing King Mohammed VI, attended the investiture ceremony of the Dominican Republic’s reelected President Luis Abinader held on Thursday and Friday.
A host of dignitaries, including heads of state and government, legislative leaders, ministers, and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the Dominican Republic, attended the event.
Luis Abinader, 56, was officially sworn in for his second term (2024-2028) on Friday after being re-elected in May with more than 57% of the vote. His main challenges for this term will be to maintain economic growth and address the ongoing crisis in Haiti.
Abinader first became a candidate for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) presidential nomination during the party’s convention on April 26, 2015. He won the nomination with more than 70% of the vote, a victory that was quickly recognized by other candidates. The president immediately received the support of former President Hipólito Mejía and other PRM leaders.
Abinader won this first term of presidency with 52.52% of the vote on July 5, 2020.
