Approximately 1.9 million travelers and 447,000 cars passed through Moroccan ports as part of the “Marhaba 2024” operation from June 5 to August 15, Morocco’s Ministry of Transport and Logistics said in a press release on Friday.
The ministry reported that the operation has been conducted “under favorable conditions,” with Moroccan ports receiving about 1.33 million passengers and 317,000 vehicles entering Morocco. Around 570,000 passengers and 130,000 vehicles traveled to Europe from Moroccan ports.
The highest volume of incoming traffic occurred on August 3 and 4, with over 80,000 passengers and 20,000 vehicles arriving, marking a “significant influx” on these dates.
“The ministry is committed to ensuring the success of the operation by providing essential technical and logistical support,” the press release read. “This includes mobilizing adequate transportation capacity for the benefit of Moroccan expatriates, diversifying maritime routes, maintaining high-quality onboard services, and overseeing crossing fares.”
For the return phase, the ministry advises travelers to book their tickets in advance with confirmed dates and times for all maritime routes, including “Tanger Med – Algeciras” and “Tanger Ville – Tarifa,” to ensure a smooth and secure journey.
In case travelers want to change their booking, the Ministry urged them to contact the shipping company remotely before arriving at the port to avoid potential congestion.
