The three-day “Yacoub Al-Mansour Almohade” basketball and futsal tournament, featuring young athletes from Morocco and Palestine, concluded on Wednesday at Tangier’s Ziaten sports hall, located in northern Morocco.
In the basketball competition, the Al Quds team defeated the Moroccan team. In futsal, six teams participated, three from Morocco and three from Al Quds, with the Palestinian squad winning in a shoot-out.
The event culminated with an award ceremony for the winners, followed by performances by Moroccan and Palestinian children.
The tournament, held as part of the 15th edition of the summer camp for Palestinian children, aims to foster friendships between Moroccan and Palestinian children and to promote the role of sports in developing values such as discipline, perseverance, generosity, and fair play.
The Ambassador of Palestine to Morocco, Jamal Choubki, highlighted the significance of the summer camp and related activities for Palestinian children, demonstrating the Kingdom of Morocco’s strong affinity and commitment to supporting and welcoming Palestinians.
Mohamed Salim Echarkaoui, Interim Director of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency, stated that the various educational, athletic, and cultural activities in this 15th edition of the summer camp for Palestinian children are designed to enhance their happiness and well-being.
He noted that these activities serve to foster a sense of security and optimism and to reinforce the bonds of friendship between Moroccan and Palestinian children.
Running until August 25, the summer camp offers a diverse range of activities for nearly 4,000 Palestinian children.
The program includes educational tours to cities such as Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, Tetouan, and Chefchaouen. In addition to these excursions, the camp features various competitions, leisure activities, and opportunities for interaction with Moroccan children at their summer camps in the diplomatic forest of Tangier.
This year’s program focuses on recreational activities, psychological support sessions, and educational exercises on first aid and rescue operations, all conducted by professional trainers.
