Morocco’s Border Police and customs officers at the Bab Sebta crossing in northeastern Morocco thwarted a smuggling operation of 404.9 kg of contraband hookah tobacco (locally known as Maâssel) that was being transported on a light vehicle on Thursday, a customs source reported.
In a joint operation with the police, customs officials seized a large quantity of the contraband tobacco that had been concealed in the vehicle’s components and tires.
The vehicle was identified as bearing the registration number of the occupied territory of Sebta.
The vehicle was being driven by a Moroccan national residing in Sebta who was on the verge of entering the kingdom’s territory.
Contraband and the vehicle were confiscated by the customs officers. The suspect was handed over to the police for further investigation, under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office.
