The local police force in Mexicali, a Mexican city near the US-Mexico border, rescued 20 Moroccan migrants who had been held captive by a human trafficking network on Monday, according to Mexican media outlets reports.
The rescue was conducted at an address located on Del Manantial Street. Law enforcement officers responded to distress calls originating from the residence, where they subsequently identified and liberated the migrants.
All of the migrants were men who hailed from Morocco and had traversed a lengthy route to reach their dream destination.
The migrants stated that their journey commenced in Morocco and proceeded through Egypt, Spain, Nicaragua, and Guatemala, finally reaching Mexicali.
The victims revealed that they were held captive by the conveyors, who demanded a substantial financial incentive to facilitate their illicit entry into the United States.
They were subsequently transferred to the National Institute of Migration (INM) for further investigation and processing of their immigration status.
