A unit of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) assigned to coastal surveillance, on Tuesday, assisted 186 would-be migrants approximately 30 kilometers south of Bir Gandouz, located in Morocco’s southern Dakhla region, according to a press release from the Royal Armed Forces General Staff.
The sub-Saharan migrants set out to reach the Canary Islands aboard a boat, braving weather and sea conditions in search of better living conditions.
The military unit provided essential assistance to those in need and they were subsequently handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for routine processing.
