Morocco’s National Police arrested eight individuals aged between 30 and 40 on Tuesday in Fez charging them with extortion, forgery, and unlawful impersonation of an official, local media reported. One of the suspects reportedly is on the national wanted list.
The suspects are accused of forging parking tickets that simulated the official look and logo of the Fez municipality. They also donned fake uniforms with similar insignia, which they used to impersonate official personnel and extort money from citizens and car owners.
They claimed to provide vehicle protection and property safeguarding in exchange for these counterfeit tickets.
Police seized various false tickets, uniforms, caps, vests, and cards with seals from private companies. These items are believed to have been used to facilitate their criminal activities.
The suspects are currently in custody and are being held under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office.
