The Republic of Chad reaffirmed its “constant position in favor of Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region,” on Wednesday in Dakhla.
This announcement was presented in a joint press release, following a meeting between Chad’s Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration, Chadians Abroad, and International Cooperation, and government spokesperson Abderaman Koulamallah, and Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita.
Chad also reaffirmed support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan presented by the Kingdom in 2007 as the only basis for a “credible and realistic solution to resolve the regional dispute.”
Koulamallah welcomed “the efforts of the United Nations as the exclusive framework for reaching a realistic, practical, and sustainable solution to the Sahara dispute.” The two officials also signed several cooperation agreements during their meeting.
Bourita expressed satisfaction with this clear position and welcomed Chad’s decision to open a Consulate General in Dakhla on Wednesday, coinciding with the 45th anniversary of the recovery of Oued Eddahab. The anniversary commemorates the historic moment when the country reclaimed its southern territories.
