Two Moroccan players, Mehdi Moubarak and goalkeeper Mohamed Reda Osmama, were not awarded bronze medals during the medal ceremony for the Paris 2024 Olympic Football Tournament at the Parc des Princes stadium.
The action has prompted some surprise among social media users and spectators regarding the criteria for awarding medals in Olympic football.
The Moroccan team achieved a third-place finish in the tournament, which typically entitles all squad members to a bronze medal. The Olympic Committee bestowed medals upon 21 players, including the 18 athletes on the official roster and three substitute players who were included in match lineups.
However, Moubarak and Osmama did not receive medals as they did not participate in or feature in any match line-ups, therefore they were not included in the medal distribution.
