The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the largest Muslim civil rights organization in the United States is set to file a lawsuit against the FBI over placing one American Plasetinian on the No Fly List and interrogating another about his “lawful organizing efforts against Israel’s actions in Gaza,” the organization said in a press release on Thursday.
CAIR and its Greater Los Angeles office, CAIR-LA will hold press conferences in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. August 12 to announce the lawsuit.
The lawsuit challenges the FBI’s apparent mistreatment of the two individuals, one of which had his electronic device seized, CAIR noted.
Since October 7, CAIR has received numerous reports from Americans nationwide who have been questioned and harassed by federal law enforcement officials due to their activism “in support of Palestine and their criticism of U.S. complicity in what they describe as Israel’s genocide in Gaza.”
This lawsuit is one of the first to target the FBI’s apparent focus on individuals who speak out against Israel’s violence in
Gaza and support the Palestinian cause. CAIR is challenging the alleged mistreatment of these Palestinian-American activists on “constitutional grounds.”
