Morocco’s Soufiane Rahimi won the top scorer award at the Paris 2024 Men’s Olympic Football Tournament.
The 28-year-old Al Ain striker netted eight goals throughout the tournament, leading all scorers.
Rahimi’s achievement was confirmed following the end of the Olympics on Friday, where Spain won over hosts France to claim the gold medal.
Despite Morocco narrowly missing out on a spot in the final, Rahimi’s outstanding performance in the tournament was key to Morocco’s historic run to the bronze medal.
Morocco became the first Arab country to ever win the bronze medal in the Olympic Games.
Rahimi made history by becoming the first player to score in six consecutive matches during the competition.
Morocco’s playmaker Ilias Akhomach expressed his admiration for Rahimi. “Rahimi is great, he’s something else.”
“I’ve played alongside him in other competitions. I knew what he was capable of and we had a very good understanding between us at these Games. He has had an excellent tournament,” Akhomach was quoted as saying by CAF.
Rahimi’s record-breaking performance is one of the highlights of the Paris 2024 Olympics, similar to Morocco’s awe-inspiring run to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
