Morocco’s National Police (DGSN) thwarted an attempt to smuggle medication made from internationally controlled narcotic substances on Thursday at Tanger Med Port in northern Morocco, according to a security source.
Police discovered a large quantity of the medication during a routine inspection of a shipping container aboard a vessel arriving from an Asian country and headed to a West African country.
Police officers seized 182,200 bottles of the medication. The shipment had been falsely declared as motorcycle parts, rather than a controlled drug.
The scientific and technical police team collected samples from the seized materials for further analysis.
The judicial police have opened an investigation under the public prosecutor’s office to identify those involved in the illegal smuggling attempt and track the routes of the smuggled goods in coordination with Interpol offices in the countries along the maritime route of the shipment.
