While the Paris Summer Games opened with precipitation, the closing ceremony will face elevated temperatures, as a heatwave alert may be issued for Paris on the final day of the 2024 Olympic Games, with temperatures expected to exceed 30 °C, according to Agence France Presse (AFP).
Cyril Bonnefoy, a meteorologist at La Chaîne Météo, an independent French weather forecasting company, has confirmed that while the closing ceremony will not face rain, attendees can expect intense heat.
Météo-France forecaster Frédéric Long has indicated that Sunday and Monday will mark the peak of the heatwave, along with an overnight rise in temperatures that will be higher than usual.
“Thunderstorms are anticipated after Monday evening,” he added.
Daytime temperatures in Paris are projected to reach 34°C, with a high of 30-33°C at 9:00 p.m., when the ceremony begins.
Following the event, temperature levels are expected to remain above the seasonal average of approximately 23°C, reaching as high as 28°C.
The closing ceremony will be held at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, north of Paris. The stadium features a semi-retractable roof that protects from inclement weather but may restrict airflow.
