Morocco’s thermal power plant in Dakhla in the south, operated by the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), has received an ISO 14001-V2015 certification necessary as part of the implementation of its Environmental Management System (EMS), according to a press release issued by ONEE on Thursday.
Following a comprehensive audit conducted by a renowned national institute, the plant, with an installed capacity of 76 MW, received a favorable assessment of its management, operational, and support processes.
“The ISO certification highlights ONEE’s dedication to environmental sustainability, including efforts to reduce ecological impacts, decrease emissions, optimize energy use, and manage waste responsibly,” ONEE said.
The certification also furthers Morocco’s broader goal of integrating economic growth with environmental protection, according to ONEE.
The accreditation is the third ONEE has received for power plants in Morocco’s southern provinces. Tan-Tan received its certification in March 2023, and Laayoune received its in February 2024.
EMS is a structured framework designed to assist entities in the management and reduction of their environmental impacts, ensuring regulatory compliance and enhancing their environmental performance.
