A 3.0-magnitude earthquake jolted Marrakech on Monday, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre.
The tremor of the quake, which occurred at 1:20 p.m., had its epicenter located 58 kilometers south of central Marrakech at a depth of 4 kilometers. Despite its moderate strength, the earthquake captured the attention of local authorities and residents.
Initial reports indicate no significant damage or casualties, but rescue teams remain on standby to address any potential developments.
Last September, a devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 struck Al Haouz Province, resulting in at least 2,960 deaths, most of which occurred outside Marrakech.
The quake caused substantial damage to historic landmarks and other buildings in Marrakech. It was the most significant earthquake to strike the country since the 1960 Agadir earthquake, which killed nearly 15,000, injured 12,000, and left 35,000 people homeless.
