The Tangier Triumph Team, in partnership with the Gueznaya municipal district, kicked off its first-ever Triumphers duathlon on Sunday in Tangier at the Gueznaya Corniche.
200 men and women from various countries participated in the competition’s first running and cycling tournament featuring a 5-kilometer running segment, followed by a 20-kilometer cycling segment, and then another running segment.
Spanish athlete Christian Villazala won the contest, finishing all three legs in 56 minutes and 15 seconds.
Villazala said she was proud to participate in the duathlon’s first competition and encouraged all sports enthusiasts, particularly those interested in cycling and running, to join in future tournaments.
While a triathlon starts off with a swim, there is no swimming required in duathlons. Instead of a swim leg, a duathlon begins with a short run leg.
Khalid Allou, president of the Tangier Triumph Team, said, “The duathlon seeks to promote sports and team spirit within our community.” It brought together “participants of all ages and skill levels to raise awareness about the importance of regular physical activity.”
This particular duathlon “highlights the Gueznaya Corniche,” according to Allou, “adding to the tourism appeal of Tangier.”
The Tangier Triumph Team is a sports association dedicated to promoting sports in general, and triathlon in particular, throughout the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region.
