Morocco is the “big sensation” of the 2024 Paris Olympics, and will be a “very tough” opponent for Spain in the semifinals of the tournament, wrote AS, a Spanish sports-focused media outlet.
In a report earlier this week, AS argued that the strong presence of Moroccan fans is a major advantage for the Atlas Lions. “It feels as if they are playing at home.”
Morocco’s U-23 team is the reigning champion in Africa. The selection features a number of outstanding players including Abde Ezzalzouli, who is “excelling” on the left wing.
Ilias Akhamoach is equally a valuable asset for the team, and he has proven his worth in the ongoing tournament.
The standout stars so far remain Soufiane Rahimi and the PSG’s fullback Achraf Hakimi. Rahimi’s jaw-dropping performance has already made him the record holder for the most goals in any Olympic games with four goals.
The Atlas Lions have started their Olympics campaign this year on a strong note, scoring a well-deserved 2-1 victory against Argentina in their opening match.
They maintained their momentum in the group stage, losing only one game to Ukraine, and beating Iraq 3–0.
After qualifying for the quarterfinals on top of their group, the Atlas Lions scored yet another resounding victory against the USA, finding the back of the net four times.
