On a maritime patrol mission on Sunday, a Royal Navy unit of coast guards assisted 59 would-be immigrants in waters 229km southwest of Dakhla, according to a press release from the Royal Armed Forces General Staff.
Sub-Saharan migrants set out to reach the Canary Islands, braving weather and sea conditions in search of better living conditions.
The patrol provided essential assistance to those in need and they were subsequently handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie to be detained for routine processing.
