A Moroccan security team is contributing to efforts aimed at securing the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics.
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has dispatched a specialized unit to France to bolster security measures for the tournament, according to a report from state media SNRT.
The team includes an elite explosives detection squad, equipped to identify explosives, improvised devices, and suspicious packages.
In addition, it features liaison officers and intelligence personnel who are collaborating in the International Security Cooperation Operations Management Center.
The specialized units are working in close coordination with French security teams. The Moroccan team is expected to provide expertise in handling potential security threats.
The 2024 Paris Olympics have attracted an estimated 600,000 spectators from around the world.
This is not the first time Morocco cooperates with other countries to secure international competitions. In 2022, Morocco joined forces with Qatar to secure the FIFA Qatar World Cup.
Through a joint agreement, the North African country sent security teams to help secure the prestigious event.
A Moroccan team of cybersecurity was also dispatched to tighten security at the Lusail Iconic Stadium, where the World Cup’s final match took place.
