Spain scored a late goal to stun Morocco 2-1, on Monday in Marseille, and set up the final against either France or Egypt in the men’s football tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The game started well for the Atlas Lions. 36 minutes into playtime, Soufiane Rahimi converted a penalty after an illegal challenge against midfielder Amir Richardson, to give his teammates the lead and make history with 6 goals at the Olympics
In the remainder of the first half, La Roja players tried to compensate for their deficit. Their efforts were unsuccessful thanks to a solid Moroccan defense.
In the second half, Spanish players started to find their footing and created many opportunities. Barcelona prodigy Ferman Lopez managed to find the back of the nets in the 66th minute profiting from a loose ball in the Moroccan box.
While all football fans around the world had been waiting for the final whistle, Spanish striker Juanly Sanchez took all by surprise scoring the second goal for La Roja at the 85th minute.
Morocco, which hugely suffered from the absence of wizard Bilal Khannouss, can still grab a bronze medal in the Olympic Games, in the third-spot game against the loser in the France/Egypt game.
