Czech tennis couple Thomas Macháč and Kateřina Siniaková won the gold medal in the mixed doubles event at the Paris Olympics, just weeks after their separation, international media reported.
The Czech duo defeated China’s Zhang Zhizhen and Wang Xinyu 6-2, 5-7, 10-8, securing their country’s first gold medal in mixed doubles tennis since the split from Czechoslovakia.
Siniaková, 28, and Macháč, 23, began their romantic relationship in 2020 and continued to compete together over the years. However, they ended their relationship just weeks before the Paris Games.
Despite their separation, they chose to team up for the mixed doubles event. Siniaková said before the tournament, “Our separation is personal, but we can still play together; we are professionals.”
After securing the gold medal, the pair shared a heartfelt embrace and exchanged kisses, indicating a possible reconciliation following their triumph.
Fans are calling for a movie to be made about the two tennis stars.
