A high-level Nigerian delegation recently visited Dakhla to study Morocco’s practices in fishing and port management.
During their visit, the delegation toured an industrial fishing unit, a marine aquaculture laboratory at the National Institute for Fisheries Research, and a sustainable oyster farming operation specializing in high-quality oyster production.
The same delegation has conducted a site visit to the National Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) in Bouznika to review the center’s operational procedures and the advancement of maritime rescue operations.
The Nigerian delegation, led by Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, was on a working visit in Morocco from July 29 to August 3.
The visit’s agenda included a program of tours to various key projects in Morocco, to strengthen knowledge exchange and strategic partnerships between the two countries.
Nigeria has recognized the polisario since 1984. Under former President Muhammadu Buhari (2015-2023), Nigerian Capital Abuja began strengthening ties with Morocco, driven by Morocco’s phosphate and fertilizer giant, OCP Groupe’s commitments to advancing Nigerian agriculture.
The two countries further solidified their cooperation with the signing of the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project in June 2018 in Rabat. The progress of this project was discussed during a phone call on January 23, 2024, between King Mohammed VI and Nigerian President Ahmed Tinubu.
The Polisario Front has not yet reacted on the Nigerian delegation’s visit to Dakhla.
