A delegation of Nigerian officials from the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy conducted a site visit to the National Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) in Bouznika, on Wednesday, to review the center’s operational procedures and the advancement of maritime rescue operations.
MRCC Director Driss Tazi told the press that “members of the delegation were given a clear explanation of the center’s mission, which includes providing assistance and rescue services at sea and outlining the resources available.”
“The visit served as a platform to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in maritime safety training and rescue operations,” Tazi said.
Olufemi Michael Oloruntola, Secretary-General of Nigeria’s Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, commended “the MRCC’s contributions to assisting and rescuing those in need, particularly illegal African migrants.”
“We are determined to strengthen our cooperation with Morocco, particularly in the area of maritime search and rescue training,” Oloruntola said.
He also called for consolidated cooperation between African countries.
The Nigerian delegation, led by Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, is currently in Morocco from July 29 to August 3. The visit’s agenda includes a program of tours to various key projects in Morocco, to strengthen knowledge exchange and strategic partnerships between the two countries.
