President of the World Bank (WB) Ajay Banga commended Morocco’s “exceptional” social and economic progress, highlighting that these advancements will be further bolstered by the New Development Model.
In a message commemorating the 25th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s accession to the Throne, Banga noted that Morocco has embarked on a series of significant initiatives that have substantially reduced poverty, accelerated electrification, and improved life expectancy.
The World Bank President also lauded the King’s dedication to enhancing the quality of life for Moroccan citizens, emphasizing that “the New Development Model will further stimulate employment and promote inclusivity within Moroccan society.”
Banga recognized the resilience and strength of the Moroccan people in overcoming various challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent earthquake affecting several regions of Morocco, describing these experiences as “a source of inspiration.”
He also acknowledged the enduring partnership between the World Bank and Morocco, celebrating the 65th anniversary of this collaboration during the Annual Meetings of the Bank and the International Monetary Fund, which Morocco hosted last October in Marrakech.
Banga reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Morocco in the “next phase” of its development journey.
