Atlas Lions fans are on edge as they await news about star player Soufiane Rahimi’s ability to play the third game against Iraq in the group stage, on Wednesday in Nice, following his injury in Morocco’s 2024 Paris Olympics football match against Ukraine.
Rahimi has been a valuable asset for the team so far scoring a brace against Argentina on July 27 and another goal in the latest match against Ukraine.
Responding to questions regarding his injury, Rahimi said: “let’s hope it is nothing serious.”
Rahimi had a preliminary medical exam after the match and a more thorough exam yesterday to determine the extent of his injury. The Atlas Lions’ medical staff will decide if he is fit enough to participate in the third and last match of the group stages against Iraq.
After their opening victory against Argentina, Morocco’s football Olympic Team lost 2-1 to Ukraine last Saturday at the Geoffroy Guichard Stadium.
In the other Group B game, Argentina bested Iraq 3-1. All the group teams have now three points each, making it hard to predict which squad will make it to the second round.
