Since ascending to the throne in 1999, King Mohammed VI has put Morocco on the road to progress and consolidated its status as “the most reliable interlocutor in the region, both for Spain and Europe, as well as for major international powers,” former Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero said.
Morocco has since made “giant strides” on the path to progress, notably in terms of political pluralism and economic and social development, Zapatero underlined on the occasion of the 25th Throne Day anniversary.
The former Spanish Prime Minister stressed that this all-out progress has allowed the North African to enjoy great credibility within the international community, commending the “very important” role played by the Kingdom in the development of Africa and Sahel countries.
In this regard, he highlighted the king’s commitment to dialogue, understanding, and sharing, making Morocco a haven of peace and stability.
Zapatero also welcomed the convergence of views between Madrid and Rabat on defending just causes and human rights around the world.
“Morocco and Spain have always been committed to advancing the values of peace, cooperation, and understanding. That is why it is so important for the world that Morocco and Spain set an example,” he stressed.
